Not necessarily true.  The BIOS is generally stored in a small amount
of non-volatile memory, such as an EEPROM, so removing the CMOS
battery will only lose certain customizable settings, such as the
clock, boot device, and various other things.  This may in fact render
the machine unbootable in some limited cases, but most modern PC BIOS
are "smart" enough to recover from a default state.
