Why not run them all on LiveCDs?  No need for install, just put the CD in
and run with them.  I think Knoppix may need a bit more power, but surely
Damn Small Linux will run on older hardware with a minimal gui.  Most of the
hardware will run fine, and it's pretty easy to figure out
