[Tfug] Debian struggling with security

i read the articles but don't have an opinion on how secure debian is.
 i am curious
what tfuggers think about whether ubuntu increases or
reduces security over debian.

i found the vehemence of the
pro-ubuntu crowd surprising. i wonder if ubuntu has
developed critical mass to supersede vanilla debian, or
if that's even possible. i presume you can't
easily switch back ior forth, but that
admin is nearly identical.

i'll bet a bunch of you have tried both, or have an opinion on the inevitable
failure of any non-vanilla debian-based distro, or on why one will
succeed. i use
vanilla, but i'd try another if it's better supported in the long term.

i.e. if vanilla is the fount from which all others spring, does that mean
it will always be the "wettest"?
