Hi List,

This is my bi-annual comment to the list. Being from over 20 years in
IBM/MVS JES2 environment I can safely say that I use the word abend about
every day, but I doubt that anyone outside this environment would use it.
Abort is the non-IBM word. Now should we discuss DASD? Direct Access Storage
Device! I have a book full of IBM terms that the list could puke over. :)

Here is my favorite non-IBM term: "re-spool the report." The meaning is to
re-print the report. The word spool is a acronym for "Simultaneous
Peripheral Operation On-Line" so when you respool a report you are
Simultaneous Peripheral Operation On-Lineing it! :)

Now, let us discuss HASP (another IBM term) Houston Automatic Spooling
Priority. YUP, IBM included a acronym in a acronym. The full word is
Houston Automatic Simultaneous Peripheral Operation On-Line Priority.

Makes me love my choice to go into computers, or wonder why I got into
computers?

Enough from me for the next two years. :)

Ed
