I've always pronounced it "ch-mod" and "chown" rhyming with "clone",
probably a sci-fi influence at work; they look like the names of aliens.
What about shell names? Does anybody else say "seesh" for csh, "teesh"
for tcsh" and "kaysh" for ksh (leading, of course, to "zeesh" for zsh
and prompting me to say "Sheesh!" aloud)

You'd better beat it. You can leave in a taxi. If you can't get a
taxi, you can leave in a huff. If that's too soon, you can leave in a
minute and a huff.
