Hi Brad,

Yea most linux distro's out there come with built in FTP servers. However the trend in the latter distros is to have it disabled by default. I personaly recommend PROFTP myself. Easy to setup and fairly secure with reasonable precautions taken.

Subject: [Tfug] FTP Server

I'm hoping to run a FTP server with Linux shortly. Right now I'm using
Bulletproof FTP under WinXP which was kind of a pain to setup because it's
running behind a Linksys firewall. Ports are forwarded to the server's LAN IP
and an IP mask within Bulletproof also points to it to enable dynamic IP
addressing (I've got 5 rigs at home).

Anyway my question is whether FTP is native to most Linux distro's (incl Red
Hat) and/or do most prefer some type of 3rd party FTP server program instead?
I want to share out a few directories in my XP box.

FYI the ftp address is: ftp://oberon.gotdns.com/

Lots of pretty slick desktop wallpaper so feel free to take what you want and
let me know if you encounter any difficulties connecting.

Will tell you about some log entries in another post ...

Thanks.
