I'm the recent recipient of a laptop (EMachines, given to me by a woman =
at work who
had "problems" with it (??)) I have tried in vain to load any of the =
Linux distributions (Mandrake,
Red Hat, Debian) I have on it with no luck. Tried booting from CD and =
booting from each disto's=20
boot disk--no go. I resorted to putting Win98 back on it.
My wife will probably use the laptop to do her PowerPoint demonstrations =
for her teaching, but
I would like to see if any of the Linux "office" products will open =
original Office XP (or 2000 or 97)
PowerPoint and Excel files. If a Linux office product can do that, then =
I'll make the laptop a=20
Linux only box. Not a huge internal hard drive, so I don't know if it's =
feasible to make this a dual
boot PC.
With that said, could somebody jump-start my installation at this =
Sunday's meeting? I'd appreciate
any and all help. Would anybody like to split the cost of a no-cheese =
(or soy cheese), vegie pizza?
I can't do the cheese thing.

-*-Bill
